In the words of a wild thing, "Let the wild rumpus start!”

Applications for the 2019 class are open from

December 1 - 31, 2019

The 2019 class will run from Tuesday, March 5th through Sunday June 16th, and will cost $555 (this includes course materials, such as books). Students are responsible for additional costs, including the gear required for the class. See the complete gear list here.
  1. Start hiking! As part of the application, please hike Mount Si carrying a 30 pound backpack. Time yourself from the trailhead to the base of the "Haystack," and record this time. You will need a Discover Pass for parking. Directions and trail description are at: http://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/mount-si.
  2. For more information, take a look at the schedule and FAQ
  3. If you know anyone who has taken the class, talk to them to get a feel for what to expect. If you have any questions at all, please email us.

The Washington Alpine Club's Basic Climbing Class offers a basic but comprehensive introduction to the technical mountaineering skills required to travel safely over snowfields, glaciers, and high-angle rock. The class size is small to preserve a high instructor-to-student ratio. Students in the course are exposed to the full range of climbing skills, first in a classroom setting, and then in the mountains.

If you missed this year's application period, put a reminder on your calendar to check the site in early December for next year's application!
